Mark Travis Granger, Sr., a beloved son, brother, husband, father, and friend, departed this world at his residence on August 18, 2026. Born on September 25, 1963, in Lake Wales, Florida, Mark’s story began and unfolded in the heart of the Sunshine State—a place that would forever shape his life, vision, and character.
Those privileged to know Mark remember a man whose very presence brimmed with kindness, mischief, and unwavering generosity. His hands, calloused from honest labor and from reaching out to those in need, built both an enduring legacy and a bridge to the people and places he cherished most. Early in life, Mark followed in the footsteps of his father, TW Granger, not only honing his craft at his side but also absorbing his commitment to hard work and service. Later, with courage and resilience forged in loss, Mark started his own site construction business—an endeavor born out of love for his family and a desire to honor the path his father paved. In an industry defined by grit and competition, Mark distinguished himself as a FDOT contractor and came to be celebrated as number one in his field.
Mark’s heart overflowed not just in his work, but in every facet of his life. Family and friends were the center of his world; their laughter and warmth his greatest treasures. Life’s simplest pleasures—a shared meal, a day on the water, a knowing glance across a crowded room—became moments of pure joy through Mark’s spirited approach. He thrived as a host, always eager to bring people together, and he never lost a chance to help someone get their footing or find honest work if they’d struggled to do so on their own.
To know Mark was to know kindness: compassionate to his core, he believed in lifting others up. He often said all he ever wanted was for people to just get along. His comic side ran like a current beneath everything he did—a jokester at heart, always ready with a sly grin or a light remark to ease the day’s burdens. Yet his sense of fun never dulled his deep reverence for the things he held sacred.
Mark found peace and adventure in the wilds, hunting gator and deer, casting his line deep into the sea, and taking immense pride in his achievements with the SCI Club for The Safari Club International. He leaves his name in the record book for his American Elk—an accomplishment that speaks to his tenacity and spirit for adventure, as well as to the stories he loved to share. He delighted in watching the TV series "Tracker," in lively poker games with his buddies, and in making memories at the casino with his beloved wife Julie.
But perhaps where Mark shone brightest was as a husband, father, and grandfather. Julie was the love of his life and partner in every escapade; their shared moments at the casino and at home wove a tapestry of love and laughter. He was endlessly proud of his children—Morgan, Mark Granger, Jr., Darrell “Paul” Gavin, and Shelby—cherishing every milestone, guiding them with integrity and warmth. His heart expanded to embrace his grandchildren, Amber Gavin and Noralynn Grondin, with a special fondness for the time he spent with little Noralynn by his side.
Mark carried a gratitude—spoken often and worn openly—for the life God gave him. He cherished each day and every blessing.
Mark’s memory is carried forward with profound love by his wife, Julie Granger; daughters, Morgan Granger of Lake Wales and Shelby Szymanski and her husband Josiah of Palm Bay, FL; sons, Mark Granger, Jr. of Lakeland and Darrell Gavin and his wife Betheny of Lake Wales; grandchildren, Amber Gavin and Noralynn Grondin; his sister Paula Granger; brother Thomas Granger, Jr; and was excitedly awaiting his first great-grandchild, Rhett Walker Lee. Mark had a special place in his heart for his dogs, Maverick, Malie, and Miami. He is reunited in peace with his dear parents, TW and Mary Granger, and his brothers, David Granger and Roger Granger, whose legacies he honored and continued.
A visitation will be held from 1:00 p.m. until the funeral service at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, August 22, 2026 at First Baptist Church of Frostproof with Pastor Rick Giles and Pastor Darrell Hood officiating. Interment will follow at Silver Hill Cemetery.
