Marion J. Ellis

Marion J. (Hamburg) Ellis passed away on March 14, 2012 at the age of 88 at the Groves Center in Lake Wales.

A life-long resident of Lake Wales, Mrs. Ellis was born in Lake Wales, Florida, in 1923, the daughter of Arthur and Viola Hamburg. Mrs. Ellis attended Lake Wales High School. She served three years in the U. S. Navy as a registered nurse. She was discharged in 1946 and came back to Lake Wales, where she was employed in the healthcare field. Mrs. Ellis was an accomplished golfer and won the Lake Wales Ladies’ Club Championship several times. She was also an avid fisherman and hunter as well as a loving wife and devoted mother.

She is survived by her husband of 64 years, Henry L. "Pete" Ellis of Lake Wales; her two sons, Michael (Meridel) Ellis of Wellington, Florida and Philip Ellis of Chelsea, Alabama; four grandchildren and four great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her sisters, Margaret MacDonald and Florence Bass, and her brothers, Robert and Bud Hamburg.

Visitation will be held from 6:00 until 8:pm Friday March 16 at the Marion Nelson Funeral Home. Graveside services will be held 10:00 am Saturday, March 17 at the Lake Wales Cemetery.
