Marian Virginia (Dunmire) Baumgardner February 18, 1921 to February 6, 2016 Lake Wales, Florida – Surrounded by her family, Marian Baumgardner, 94 died February 6, 2016 at the Groves Rehabilitation Center.
Known as Bunny to friends and family, she was born in south central Pennsylvania and graduated from Windber High School near Johnstown PA. Bunny married her high school sweetheart, Ernest Baumgardner, and during WWII, trained as a registered nurse. She graduated from Allegheny General Hospital School of Nursing in Pittsburgh.
Bunny and Ernest raised their family in Meadville, PA. She worked as a nurse at City Hospital, was active at Trinity Lutheran Church and helped operate the family businesses, Meadville Paint and Wallpaper and Meadville Remodeling.
In retirement, Bunny lived for many years in Winter Haven, FL where she was active in the Winter Haven Hospital Auxiliary, president of the Garden Grove Garden Club, 4th Saturday Night Bridge Club, Birthday Club, and Today’s Floridian. She was a member of St. John’s United Methodist Church, where she sang in the choir. Later they moved to Water’s Edge in Lake Wales, Florida. After Ernest’s death, Bunny lived with and was cared for by her daughter, Judith Perry.
Bunny is survived by her son James (Ruth) of Columbus, OH; daughter Judith Perry of Lake Wales, FL; son Dean (Nancy) of Madison, WI; four grandchildren, Brystal (Ryan) Michalkiewicz, Corrie (Ed) Varga, Amahra Perry (Matt Kalush) and Kaitlin (Peter) Young, as well as six great-grand children, Contessa, Bryson, Asher and Evangeline Michalkiewicz and Wesley and Quincy Young.
Bunny had a joyful spirit and life-long interest in music.
In place of flowers, the family asks that memorials be made to the Children’s Choir at the Lake Wales First Presbyterian Church, 16 N. 3rd Street, Lake Wales, FL 33884.
A memorial service will be held on Thursday, February 18, 2016 at 2:00 PM at the church.
