Margit Szvoboda

Margit Szvoboda, 92, of Lake Wales, Florida passed away Thursday, May 21, 2015 at Savannah Court.

She was born May 15, 1923 in Novisad, Yugoslavia to the late Peter and Maria Kern Wildpret. During World War II, she spent 7 years of her life seeking refuge throughout Europe to escape the hands of the German forces. Ms.Szvoboda arrived in America in 1949 after finding a sponsor.She has been a resident of the Lake Wales area since moving here in 1989 from Elmwood Park, New Jersey. She was a retired Cost Accountant for Universal Foods Corp. She loved to travel, read, and listen to classical music. She was a volunteer at Lake Wales Care Center from 1990-2011 accumulating 10,796 hours. For many years she donated more hours than any other Care Center volunteer. On May 5, 2004, Ms. Szvoboda received the national Daily Point of Light Award for her volunteer efforts with Care Center.She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Lake Wales.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Frank Szvoboda.

Survivors include sister-in-law Carol Villanyi and many close friends.

Memorial services will be held 11:00 AM Tuesday, May 26, 2015 at the First Presbyterian Church with Rev. Matt Joldersma and Rob Quam officiating.
