Margaret Dubose Phillips

Margaret (DuBose) Phillips of Frostproof passed away Tuesday, August 16, 2011 at the Groves Center in Lake Wales.

Margaret was born November 1, 1920 in Frostproof to the late Ernest Y. and Ruby M. (Carter) DuBose. She worked most of her life in the citrus industry and then retired from the State of Florida after driving a school bus for 14 years. She was a faithful member of the Frostproof Church of Christ, a charter member and volunteer of Frostproof Historical Society, loved her flowers and could be seen daily working in her yard.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband of 63 years, Carl C. Phillips; a stillborn baby girl (unnamed); a son, Ernest Charles Phillips; sister, Ernestine Temple; and brothers, Lowell Y. DuBose and James C. DuBose. She is survived by her daughter, Margaret Carlene Briggs (Jim) of Frostproof; son, James C. Phillips (Vicki) of Lecanto; brother, John "Uddie" DuBose (Eula) of Babson Park; 4 grandchildren, 9 great-grandchildren and a number of nieces and nephews, all of whom she loved very much.

The family will receive friends from 6:00 until 8:00 pm, Thursday, August 18, 2011 at the Marion Nelson Funeral Home in Frostproof. Funeral service will be held 11:00 am, Friday, August 19, 2011 at the Frostproof Church of Christ with nephew, John E. DuBose, Jr. officiating. Interment will follow at the Silver Hill Cemetery with Jim Briggs, her beloved son-in-law officiating.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Good Shepherd Hospice (105 Arneson Avenue, Auburndale, FL 33823).
