Mrs. Louise (Mercure) Alix of Frostproof died at home on Friday, August 21, 2009, after a valiant battle with liver cancer.
She was born in Uxbridge, MA on May 1, 1938, attended St. Paul's School in Blackstone, MS. After turning 16, she worked in the manufacturing industry making hats, garments, and shoes. Louise married Joseph A. Alix on June 11, 1960, they have been married 49 years.
Mrs. Alix moved to Florida in 1975 and lived in Sebring for 2 years, then moved to Frostproof in 1977, and has lived here since.
She is preceded in death by four brothers, Richard, Ernest, Roger, her twin Louis, as well as one sister, Rita. She is survived by her husband, Joseph A. Alix; sisters, Marie Mercure of Sturridge, MA, Claire (Mercure) of Thiebault of Winter Park, FL; children, Dr. Mark Cunningham of Wisconsin, Kim Rousseau of Flushing, MI, Christine Cunningham of Vale, CO; 9 grandchildren, 5 great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Mrs. Alix has been described by her family and friends as a go-getter. She earned her High School Diploma at the age of 69. She was a giving, loving, and jolly old soul who could make you feel better no matter what was happening in your life. She is loved and will be well remembered.
A memorial service will be held 11:00 AM, Wednesday, August 26, 2009 at Marion Nelson Funeral Home in Frostproof with Corner Stone Hospice Chaplain Ken Geren officiating.
It is requested that in lieu of flowers donations be sent to The National Shrine of St. Jude, or Cornerstone Hospice.
