Frostproof……
Retired, T/Sgt Louie Johnston, 94 of Frostproof, passed away Wednesday, December 3, 2014 after a short stay at The Grove Center of Lake Wales.
He was preceded in death by his son, David Johnston, grandson Jason Plair and granddaughter Julie Marie Johnston.
He is survived by his wife of 68 years, Ruth Collins Johnston and daughters, Beverly (Bob) Malmquist of Frostproof and Debra (Larry) Plair of Rossville, Ga., 9 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.
Louie was the last surviving child of Frierson Parker and Matilda Anderson Johnston. He was born in Crewsville, FL, October 28, 1920.
After graduation he served in the Civilian Conservation Corp and was assigned to the National Park Service. Louie joined the Army Air Corp and later the United States Air Force, serving in both WWII and the Korean Conflict. He retired from the Air Force in 1961.
Louie was a member of a pioneer family that migrated to the United States from England in 1767. They Settled in Florida in the mid 1800’s and his grandfather, Smoot Alexander Johnston was the first doctor in Arcadia.
Graveside service with full military honors, will be held at Silver Hill Cemetery on Sat. Dec.6, 2014 at 10:00 AM. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Wounded Warrior Project or Fisher House.
