MULBERRY--Loran L. “Smitty” Smith, 73, of Mulberry died Saturday, September 08, 2007 at the Bartow Regional Medical Center.

Born February 03, 1934 in Dalton, Nebraska to Billy & Myrtle Smith; he moved to Mulberry in 2006 from Lake Wales where he lived since 1978. He was a retired supervisor at Alcoma in Lake Wales. He graduated from the Curtis Nebraska Agricultural School in 1951. He was of the Methodist faith and a veteran of the Korean Conflict, serving in the U.S. Army. He was a member of the American Legion Post 400.

Mr. Smith was preceded in death by his wife, Nadine Smith in 1999; son, Joey Smith; brothers, Wallace & Lesten Smith; & sister, Karyn Smith. Survivors include his daughter, Pamela Conibear of Winter Haven; sons, Rickie Smith of Lake Wales; Rodney Smith of Lake Wales; Ronald Smith of Bradley Junction; Christopher Smith of Lakeland; brother, Douglass Smith of Dalton, NE; sister, Barbee Harmon of Sidney, NE; 10 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and companion, Sylvia Crumbley of Mulberry.

Visitation will be held from 6:00 until 8:00 PM, Tuesday, September 11, 2007 at the Marion Nelson Funeral Home in Lake Wales. Funeral services will be held 11:00 AM, Wednesday, September 12, 2007 at the funeral home with Rev. Sandy Collins officiating. Interment will follow at the Lake Wales Cemetery.
