In Loving Memory of Lillian Blanche Murphy

It is difficult to imagine a world without our mother. For 94 years, Lillian Blanche Murphy filled the lives around her with love, laughter, strength, and compassion. She had a remarkable way of making people feel seen, valued, and cared for. Whether you were family, a friend, a neighbor, or a stranger who happened to cross her path, you left her presence feeling a little more loved than before.

Our mother taught us many things, not through grand speeches, but through the way she lived. She taught us to work hard, to stand up for what is right, to care for those who are struggling, and to never underestimate the power of kindness. She showed us that strength and tenderness can live side by side and that a generous heart is one of life's greatest gifts.

Of all the roles she held, nothing brought her more joy than being a wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother. While we knew her as Mom, her grandchildren and great grandchildren knew her simply as "Gram," a title she wore with great pride and endless love. Her beloved husband, Mark, was the love of her life and her partner for more than 50 years. Together they built a family rooted in love, strengthened by kindness, and guided by a belief in the goodness of people. Her children were her greatest pride, and she loved each of us fiercely, celebrating our victories, carrying our burdens, and reminding us, sometimes gently and sometimes not so gently, that we could do hard things.

Mom believed deeply in taking care of people. She never walked away from someone who was hurting. She was often the first to offer a meal, lend a hand, open her home, or speak up for someone who needed a voice. She believed every person mattered and deserved dignity, compassion, and a place to belong. Her home was never just a home. It was a refuge, a gathering place, and a safe harbor for many family, friends, and anyone else who needed one.

She was also the perfect blend of sweet and sassy. Her wit was sharp, her opinions were well known, and her honesty was legendary. Yet behind every strong opinion was an even stronger heart. She loved deeply, forgave generously, and remained fiercely loyal to the people she cared about.

One of Mom's greatest joys was found outside. Some of our favorite memories are of her sitting quietly on a porch or in a yard, feeding squirrels, peacocks, and whatever other creatures happened to wander her way. Animals seemed naturally drawn to her, and she delighted in their company. Looking back, it feels fitting that they trusted her so easily. Like people, they seemed to recognize the gentleness, kindness, and peace she carried with her.

Born into a world very different from today's, Mom witnessed nearly a century of change. Through every season of life, she remained grounded in what mattered most: family, kindness, perseverance, and love. Through hard work, determination, and prayer, she showed us what resilience looks like.

Her strength became the foundation upon which generations of our family were built.

Lillian was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 50 years, Mark; her eldest daughter, Kathy; her parents, Michael and Lillian Murphy; and her seven brothers and sisters. She carried their memory with her always and often spoke of them with love. She is survived by her daughter Lynne (Kenny) Baker; her daughter Mary; her son John (Sally) Mongeon; her stepdaughter Tammy; and her daughter Marie (Dylan) McKeeman. She also leaves behind ten cherished grandchildren, thirteen adored great grandchildren, one precious great-great-grandchild, and more grand-dogs than anyone could reasonably keep track of, all of whom brought her tremendous joy.

While we mourn her passing, we find comfort in imagining a joyful reunion, a loving homecoming where she is once again embraced by those who went before her.

We will remember our mother in a thousand small ways: in stories shared around dinner tables, in laughter that unexpectedly sounds like hers, in acts of kindness offered to strangers, and in the fierce love that continues to bind our family together. Her legacy lives not only in those she leaves behind, but in the values she taught us, the compassion she modeled, and the countless lives she touched.

Well done, good and faithful servant.

May her memory be a blessing, and may the love she shared continue to shine through all who knew and loved her.

A private family service will be held. Condolences can be sent to the family at www.marionnelsonfuneralhome.com.
