Leonard A. "John" Ellis

Leonard A. "John" Ellis of Lake Wales passed away Sunday, January 22, 2012 at his residence.

He was born April 25, 1931 in Gayle, St Mary, Jamaica to the late Frederick & Adina (Morgan) Ellis; and he came here from Jamaica 30 years ago. He was retired from the Polk County School Board and was a member and former deacon at the Seventh Day Adventist Church in Lake Wales. He enjoyed fishing and watching sports on TV, especially wrestling and cricket.

Survivors include his wife, Daphne Ellis; daughter, Yvonne Ellis of Gaitherburg, MD; sons, Martin Ellis of Jamaica, Newton Ellis of Lake Wales, Michael Ellis (Janet) of Jamaica, Oswald Ellis of Poinciana and Clement Ellis of Bronx, NY; ten grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be held from 1:00 pm until the funeral service at 2:00 pm Monday, January 30, 2012 at the Marion Nelson Funeral Home in Lake Wales with Pastor Nathan Madrid officiating. Interment will follow at the Lake Wales Cemetery.
