Lela Adell Riggins, 89

Lela Adell Riggins of Frostproof passed away Thursday, October 20, 2022, at Vitas Hospice of Lake Wales.

She was born February 25, 1933, in Lawrenceburg, TN to the late General David and Armentia Collier. She grew up in and around Lawrenceburg and always loved going home for the family reunion.  David Crockett State Park was a home away from home every summer. She moved to Frostproof in 1974 becoming a resident for more than 4 decades. Lela was a caregiver and helping the elderly was a point of pride. She was a member of the Lighthouse Baptist Church in South Lake Wales. She enjoyed the outdoors particularly watching squirrels, butterflies, and red birds but family was her passion. You could always find her in the kitchen peeling potatoes or making biscuits while the house was filled with laughter. She loved spending time with her grandkids and great grandkids playing paper ball and rocking them until they were too big.

Lela is survived by her daughters, Freda Woods (Ken) of Lake Wales and Candace Grose (Ronnie) of Frostproof; sons, Donnie Smith of Lake Wales and David Riggins (Kitty) of Frostproof; 10 grandchildren, Chuck, Gail, Sonja, Josh, Sabrina, Makenzie, Nickolas, Morgan, Gabby and Christopher; and 15 great grandchildren

Visitation will be held from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. Tuesday, October 25, 2022 and The funeral service will be held 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, October 26, 2022 at Marion Nelson Funeral Home in Lake Wales with Pastor David Williams and Rev. Garison Taylor officiating. Interment will follow at Auburndale Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to Lighthouse Baptist Church P.O. Box 1009 Lake Wales, FL 33859.
