Leitha “Nita” McKenzie, 81, of Lake Wales passed away Thursday, January 24, 2008 at Brandywyne Health Care in Winter Haven.

Born June 2, 1926 in Frostproof; she was lifelong resident of the area. She was a retired floor supervisor for Citrus World and was of the Baptist faith. She was a member of the Eastern Star in Lake Wales and enjoyed sewing. Her passion was cooking and baking for her family and took it upon herself to take in and raise several kids that were not her own, including Louise, Jeanine, Betty Sue and Stephanie.

Leitha was preceded in death by her husband, Edward M. McKenzie in 1999, and her daughter, Carol Carnley in 1999. Survivors include her sons, Ronnie McKenzie Sr. and Kenny McKenzie both of Lake Wales; sister, Frances “Jo” Redman of Bement, IL; 8 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great-grandchild.

Visitation will be held from 10:00 AM until service time at 11:00 AM, Monday, January 28, 2008 at the Marion Nelson Funeral Home in Lake Wales. Interment will follow at the Eden Cemetery in Frostproof.
