Laverne S. Miller Carey

Laverne S. Miller Carey, a respected member of the community, passed away on June 24, 2026, at AdventHealth Lake Wales Vitas IPU. She was born on July 13, 1929, in McKeesport, Pennsylvania.

Throughout her lifetime, Laverne was known for her steadfast dedication to her family and those around her. She built a legacy rooted in resilience, commitment, and caring, qualities appreciated by all fortunate enough to know her. She previously worked at the Vanguard School and retired as a legal secretary. She was active in her church where she was a lay leader and would cover for the pastor if they were out. She was the person who setup the nativity scene at the church each year.

Preceding her in death were her two husbands, Bernie Miller and Joe Carey; as well as her brothers and sisters. Laverne is survived by her devoted daughter, Donna Magera, and her son, Donald Wilding. She was a proud and loving grandmother to Joey, Matt, Kimberly, and Michael, all of whom were sources of immense joy and pride in her later years.
