Larry Singletary

Larry Singletary of Casselberry passed away Monday, June 21, 2010 while on vacation in California.

Born November 7, 1962 in Lakeland, he grew up in Lake Wales and graduated from Lake Wales High School in 1980. While in high school, he played the french horn in the Highlander Band and received the Florida Band Master's Association Outstanding Musicianship Award. He was a member of the Natural High for 2 years and served as president of the Concert Choir.

Larry was accepted into the FSU School of Music where he played french horn in the Marching Chief's Band and served as section leader. He was elected to the Senate of the student government and served as Senator for 2 terms, chairing various committees in the Senate and served as Vice-President of membership in the FSU Student Foundation. Larry was elected President of the 1984 senior class at FSU, and was speaker at the spring commencement exercises. He was a brother in the Delta Tau Delta fraternity, in the sweetheart court of Kappa Delta Sorority and named the sorority’s “dagger man”. Larry served as Secretary of the Gold Key Honorary and was a member of the “Scalphunters”, an honorary organization for leadership among fraternity men. He was Co-Founder and Vice-Chairman of the United Seminoles, a campus political party.

Since graduation from college he has been a devout and loyal Seminole Booster. He loved tail-gating at the Seminole games with his friends. Larry was the director of Miser Product Services at Fidelity National Information Services in Maitland, Florida.

Some of the organizations he was involved in are Hands on Orlando, the Audubon Society, and the Lab Rescue of Florida. He enjoyed hiking and white water rafting.

Survivors include his parents, Grady and Teddie Singletary; his brother, Stephen Singletary and Tina Singletary; his nieces, Christy Singletary, Saysha Rayburn, Ayrian Rayburn and Jada Rayburn; his nephew, Sven Singletary; his great-grandmother, Vickie Brocksmith; and close friend, Mike Murphy, numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins.

Visitation will be held from 6:00 until 8:00 PM, Friday, June 25, 2010 and the funeral will be held 11:00 AM, Saturday, June 26, 2010 at the Marion Nelson Funeral Home in Lake Wales.
