Katherine Lynn Cierebiej Dehate

Katherine Lynn Cierebiej DeHate of Lake Wales passed away Saturday, September 18, 2010 at the Lake Wales Medical Center with her family by her side.

She was born January 17, 1950 in Stamford, CT to Bill & Adele Cierebiej. Kathy was a majorette at Lakeland High School where she graduated. She then attended the University of Central Florida where she graduated with a Bachelor's degree. Kathy started teaching at St. Joseph's Catholic School in Lakeland before she began teaching with the Polk County School Board in 1981 where she taught various levels of elementary education until she ultimately found her calling in art education. She retired in 2009 from Dundee Elementary as the art teacher; and through her efforts, her students won many different awards at various art shows. She was greatly loved by fellow teachers and students.

Survivors include her husband of 34 years, Roy Warren DeHate; daughter, Inga Alexandrae DeHate Stokes of Lake Wales; son, Erik Thomas DeHate of Lake Wales; mother, Adele Cierebiej of Lakeland; brother, William Cierebiej of Orlando; and two grandsons, Aiden Thomas Stokes and Landon Phillip Stokes. She was preceded in death by her father, Bill Cierebiej of Lakeland.

A light from our household is gone, a voice we love is stilled. A place is vacant in our hearts that never can be filled. We will love you forever.

Visitation will be held from 1:00 PM until the funeral service at 2:00 PM, Saturday, September 25, 2010 at the Marion Nelson Funeral Home in Lake Wales. Interment will follow at the Lake Wales Cemetery.
