Judith Kines Whitaker

Judith Kines Whitaker, born on September 28, 1947, in Chattanooga, Tennessee, passed away on May 8, 2026, at the Moffit Cancer Center.

She was an active member of the First Baptist Church of Lake Wales where she sang in the choir, played the hand bells, and was a part of the Joy Group. She was a leader of the after school Faith Finders Club for Lake Wales Schools and regularly attended bible study groups. She dedicated much of her life to educating young minds and leading them in a positive direction for the Polk County School System. Judi was an avid tennis player and a fan of all sports her children and granddaughters played, she never missed a game. In her younger years, Judi enjoyed going to the beach, and in later years was often found playing tennis, reading, and enjoying live music in the North Carolina mountains. Her warm spirit and caring nature made her a friend to many, and she loved sharing time and laughter with others.

Judi was preceded in death by her parents, R.C. and Joyce Kines; brother, Gary Kines and wife Charlotte; and nephew, Matthew Kines. She is survived by her husband of 50 years, Aubrey Whitaker; children, Steven Whitaker and his wife Megan of Lake Wales and Allison Guerra of St. Petersburg; brother, Steven Kines and his wife Debra of Memphis, Tennessee; grandchildren, Ashleigh Guerra, Sydnie Whitaker, and Sophia Whitaker; nephews, Cory Kines and wife Casey, B.J. Otey and wife Robin, Doug Kines and wife Erica; and niece, Carrie Arnold and husband Keith.

A visitation will be held at 10:00 a.m. and the service will begin at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, May 16th, 2026 at First Baptist Church of Lake Wales with Dr. Scott Markley officiating. Interment will follow at Lake Wales Cemetery. Condolences can be sent to the family at www.marionnelsonfuneralhome.com
