Juanita Sikes of Lake Wales passed away Friday, January 2, 2009 at the Highlands Lake Center in Lakeland.
She was born November 10, 1923 in Bartow to the late William D. & Pearl G. (Whitten) Crews Sr.; she was a lifelong resident of this area. She was a homemaker and was the superintendent of the Begginer’s Dept. for 25 years at the First Baptist Church in Lake Wales. She also served on several committees, a member of the Golden Air Choir, the treasurer of Snappy Seniors, and president of Georgetown Square Fellowship Club. Mrs. Sikes was very family oriented and supportive of church music.
Juanita was preceded in death by her husband, Lewis E. Sikes Jr. in 1973. Survivors include her daughters, Joyce Anita Barber of Lakeland and Wanda Faye Peeples of Lakeland; son, Vernon Lewis Sikes of Flora, MS; 7 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be held from 4:00 until 6:00 PM, Sunday, January 4, 2009 at the Marion Nelson Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held 11:00 AM, Monday, January 5, 2009 at the funeral home with Rev. Scott Markley officiating. Interment will follow at the Lake Wales Cemetery.
