Joyce S. Ivesdal, 67, of River Ranch, FL died Thursday, March 22, 2007 at Lake Wales Medical Center, due to kidney failure
Born December 20, 1939 to Oscar and Miriam Simmons in Harrisburg, PA where she was educated and lived until moving to EauGallie/Melbourne, FL in 1963. She graduated in 1957 from Dauphin High School, Harrisburg, PA. She then attended Harrisburg Polyclinic Hospital, school of nursing, and graduated in 1960 as an RN.
Joyce’s nursing career took her to the Harrisburg Polyclinic Hospital, PA., Philadelphia Hospital, PA. and upon moving to Florida ,she worked at the Melbourne Hospital, Vero Beach Hospital, and Boca Raton Community Hospital surgical floor from where she retired as a head nurse in 1980 after 10 years of service. Following her retirement, she joined the Broward County and Palm Beach County Home Health Services as an RN Field Advisor for 3 years.
Joyce married Trygve “Tryg” Ivedsal on April 26, 1968 in Vero Beach, FL. Joyce and Trygve lived and worked in the Melbourne/Vero Beach areas until mid-summer 1969. They then moved to Boca Raton, FL. in August 1969.
Joyce and her husband co-founded “Microsystems-Florida” in Boca Raton with 3 associate families. They retired and moved to Westgate River Ranch, FL in 2003.
Joyce was active in Boca Raton community affairs, she was a past member of The Bocatones, a volunteer, non-profit singing group that specializes in show tunes and patriotic songs. The Bocatones perform for free at nursing homes, retirement homes and for the physically and mentally handicapped in the Greater Boca Raton area, she was a member of Royal Poincianna Garden Club, Boca Raton Music Guild, Boca Raton Investment Shoppers and Boca Raton Resort & Club. She was a member until her death of The University Club of the Florida Atlantic University Foundation, Inc.: a non-profit organization serving F.A.U. with fund raising and other supportive functions for worthy causes, such as The FAU Library Fund, FAU Student Scholarship Awards, The FAU Tribute Circle, etc. Joyce served two terms as president of the organization under its original name of “FAU Volunteer League”. The FAU Foundation has this week established a Memorial Fund for the above causes in Joyce’s name, and tax deductible contributions in her honor can be made to FAU Foundation-The University Club, c/o Joyce S. Ivesdal Memorial Fund, 777 Glades Road, Boca Raton, FL 33431.
Survivors include her husband, Trygve “Tryg” Ivesdal; daughters Terry Smythe and husband Philip of Houghton, MI, Heidi Vitso and husband Nils of Ypsilanti, MI and Michele “Mia” Genord and husband John of Lake Worth FL. Joyce had 4 grandsons; Eirik, Thomas, John-John “J-J’, and Joseph “Joey”, 2 granddaughters Heidi and Elise.
