Ellen Joyce McIntyre Greene Cain of Lake Wales passed away Friday, November 17, 2017 at Good Shepherd Hospice in Auburndale.
She was born October 30, 1929 in Sebring to the late Carl Raymond and Mildred McIntyre. She was a graduate of Sebring High School and Jones Business College in Jacksonville. She was an expert quilter, loved playing bridge and reading, and enjoyed oil and acrylic painting later in her life. She was a 35-year volunteer as a 4-H Club leader and various other 4-H programs. She was also a former Society Editor of Highlands County News in Sebring, former president of the Polk County Extension Homemakers, former president of the 4-H Foundation, former vice-president of Polk County Youth Fair, member and former president of Fort Meade Garden Club, and member of the Lake Wales Arts Council, Frostproof Art Museum and Gallery, Florida Farm Bureau and First Baptist Church of Lake Wales.
Joyce was preceded in death by her first husband, William Henry Greene III; second husband, Roger F. Cain; son, Preston Greene; brothers, Arthur Buck McIntyre and Ray McIntyre; and sisters, Carol Rogers, Eileen Brannon and Catharine Palmer. Survivors include her son, Gordon “Mac” Greene, wife-Mary Kay, of Winter Haven; daughter, Amy Blocker of Fort Meade; brothers, Robert “Bob” McIntyre of Fort Myers and Donald “Don” McIntyre of Blairsville, GA; seven grandchildren, ten great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. She took great pleasure in her large and loving family.
Visitation will be from 1:00 p.m. until the funeral service at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, November 21, 2017 at the First Baptist Church in Lake Wales with Dr. Scott Markley and Travis Greene officiating. Interment will follow at the Lake Wales Cemetery.
