Joseph J. "Joe" Seliga of Lake Wales passed away Thursday, March 3, 2011 at his residence.
He was born September 5, 1925 in Kankakee, IL to the late Stanley and Anna (Gruca) Seliga; and came to Lake Wales from Burnsville, NC in 1985. He was a retired letter carrier for the U.S. Postal Service in Ft. Lauderdale, a member of Holy Spirit Catholic Church, a member of the Knights of Columbus, and a veteran of World War II and Korea, serving in the U.S. Navy. He enjoyed traveling, working in his yard, and was an avid football fan, and followed the Packers and Dolphins.
Joe was preceded in death by his siblings, Stanley Seliga, Leonard Seliga, Stella Spitz, Frances Geeding, and Lillian Seliga. Survivors include his wife, Gwen; sister, Helen Blank of Wisconsin; many nieces and nephews, including Diane Dewan of Neenah, WI, who is also his God Daughter.
Memorial mass will be held 11:00 AM Saturday, March 12, 2011 at the Holy Spirit Catholic Church of Lake Wales, with Father Anthony Bluett officiating. In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to the Good Shepherd Hospice (105 Arneson Avenue, Auburndale, FL 33823).
