Jong Chon Hwang

August 20, 1940 — February 24, 2010

Jong Chon Hwang of Lake Wales passed away Wednesday, February 24, 2010 at the Orlando Regional Medical Center.

He was born August 20, 1940 in Seoul, Korea to the late Myung Jae Hwang & Oak Hyun Hwang; he came here from New York 4 years ago. He was the vice president of The Korea Times for 25 years and started his career as a photographer and reporter. He was a member of the St. Matthew Catholic Church, was an active leader in the Korean community in New York and loved gardening, golfing and collecting stamps.

Survivors include his wife of 42 years, Kyung Bun Hwang; daughters, Haesin Jung (Stanley) of New York, Haera Lee (Edward) of Chicago, IL and Haewon Hwang (Nick) of Hong Kong; one sister, Jong Kang Hwang; one brother, Jong Suh Hwang; seven grandchildren and one more on the way.

Visitation will be held from 11:00 until 12:00 PM, Saturday, February 27, 2010 at the Marion Nelson Funeral Home in Lake Wales. Funeral mass of the resurrection will be held 1:00 PM, Saturday, February 27, 2010 at the St. Matthew Catholic Church in Winter Haven.
