John “Wayne” Bass, 79

John “Wayne” Bass of Lake Wales passed away Sunday, March 27, 2022 at AdventHealth Lake Wales.

He was born August 6, 1942 in Lake Wales to the late William and Lenora Bass. Wayne was a graduate of Lake Wales High School. After high school, he served in Vietnam and retired from the United States Marine Corps and the United States Air Force. Following his retirement from the military, Wayne worked for AutoZone in Lake Wales as the Commercial Parts Manager. In his spare time, he was a race car driver with the number 63 and enjoyed spending time with his family and going to the kids sports games.

Wayne was preceded in death by his wife, Penny Bass. He is survived by his sons, Westley Bass and wife Kathy of Winter Haven, and David Bass and wife Teresa of Lake Wales; sister, Kay Sauls of West Palm Beach; brother, Howard Bass of Santee, California; seven grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

Graveside services and interment will be held at 11:00 A.M., Thursday, April 14, 2022 at Florida National Cemetery in Bushnell.
