John L. Hodges

John L. Hodges of Lake Wales passed away Friday, November 27, 2009 at the Lake Wales Medical Center.

He was born January 2, 1943 in Blakely, GA; he grew up in Bartow and moved to Lake Wales in 1962. He was an engineering technician for the State of Florida Department of Transportation and was a member of the Ebenezer 7th Day Adventist Church in Bartow. He was also the owner/operator for 'Hodges Tree Surgeon'. His favorite pass times were gardening, hunting, fishing and going to flea markets for old frying pans. He loved being 'Poppy' to his grandchildren, Reese, Daegan, Gabriel and Bronson.

John was preceded in death by his son, Gregory Shawn Hodges and a daughter, Michelle Hodges. Other survivors include his wife, Sandra Hodges; daughter, Shelley Snavely (David) of Lake Wales; sons, Joseph Hodges of Orlando and Joshua Hodges of Minnesota; parents, Ernest & Christine Hodges of Bartow; sister, Tesia Mills of Bartow; and six grandchildren.

Funeral service will be held 11:00 AM Wednesday, December 2, 2009 at the Marion Nelson Funeral Home with viewing at 10:00 AM. Interment will follow at the Lake Wales Cemetery.
