John Pendleton Hancock, 85
John Pendleton Hancock of Winter Haven passed away Monday, December 7, 2020 at Winter Haven Hospital.
He was born March 26, 1935 in Randolph, Vermont to the late Charles and Eleanor Hancock; he came here from Grand Rapids, Michigan in mid-2005. John was a veteran Sergeant of the United States Army Reserve and retired Supervisor of the Water Department for the City of Grand Rapids. He was a member of Mensa, the Lake Wales American Legion, and the Elks Lodge in Clewiston. John’s favorite thing to do was build model planes. He also loved fishing, golfing, fixing lots of things, and being social with people everywhere! Teasing people with his name was his favorite game.
John is survived by his wife of 25 years, Marissa Perez-Hancock, daughters, Pam (Carl) Lee of Belmont, Michigan, Bev (Brian) Dentler of Sparta Michigan, and Karen (Harold) Fifield of Howard City, Michigan; son, Joe (Trixie) Hancock of Rockford, Michigan; stepdaughters, Diana Valentin, and Amy Valentin of Comstock Park, Michigan; 12 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
A visitation will be held from 10:00 a.m. until the funeral service at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, December 12, 2020 at Marion Nelson Funeral Home in Lake Wales with Rev. Denny Cothern officiating. Interment and military honors will take place at the Lake Wales Cemetery. Per family request, masks and social distancing are required. There will be a celebration of life service in Michigan at a later date.
