John J. Fletcher

John J. Fletcher, 82, passed November 18, 2022, in Lake Wales.

Born on August 15, 1940, in Butchersville, West Virginia to Virgil Hayward and Josephine "Bammy" Fletcher

Survived by: Wife - Barbara Fletcher, Sons - Jonathan Fletcher (Janine) and Michael Fletcher (Christine) Grandchildren - Ethan Joseph and Joshua Reid; Step-Grandchildren - Kelsey, Nathan, Jacob, Julianna and numerous nieces and nephews.

John graduated from Lake Wales Highschool in 1958 and was involved in various sports and socializing. He attended Florida Southern College, graduating in 1962 with a bachelor's degree. He served in the US Army Reserves and was honorably discharged in 1969.

He was employed with American Motors from 1962 to 1968, then Sears Roebuck Co from 1969 to 1978. He then returned to Fletcher Electric Service in 1978, which has been in business since 1950.

He was very active in the community, being involved in Lake Wales Little League, Lake Wales Chamber of Commerce, Ducks Unlimited, Polk County Municipal Disciplinarian board, he was a member at Lake Wales Lutheran Church and also a member on the board. He most recently had been attending First Baptist Church of Lake Wales.

He was an avid outdoorsman, enjoyed hunting and fishing in the local lakes and in the mountains of West Virginia. John will be remembered as a devoted family man and a lover of animals, having had many family pets throughout his life. He will also, be remembered for his quick wit and sense of humor. He always had time to share one of his many stories and jokes. He was a history buff and watched Jeopardy faithfully.

Family will receive friends on Thursday, December 8, 2022, at the First Baptist Church of Lake Wales at 2:00 PM with a service beginning at 3:00 PM with Rev. Barry Hooten officiating.  In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Lake Wales Care Center or the Charity of your Choice.
