JOHN WILLIAM BOWYER, 72

Business Executive

John William Bowyer, 72, of Lake Wales passed away Friday, April 6, 2008 at the Lake Wales Medical Center.

Born September 4, 1935 in Fort Wayne, IN; the son of John Harold and Evelyn M. Bowyer. He graduated in 1957 from Indiana University with a B.S. Business Administrative degree and in 1968 from Saint Francis College in Fort Wayne, IN with a MBA in Psychology. He was employed for 38 years at International Harvester/Navistar as a Director of International Process Mgt., Staff Vice-President & Chief International Officer. He also worked in Eidenhoven, Holland on special assignment to DAF Motor Co. and in Mexico City, Mexico on special assignment to President DINA Motors. He was a veteran serving from 1957 until 1963 in the U.S. Army as a 1st Lieutenant – Infantry & Signal Corp. He retired in 1994. He was a member of the Lake Wales Noon Rotary, Lake Ashton Travelers, Masonic Lodge, Scottish Rite and the Shriners of North American. He enjoyed raising Registered Angus Cattle, spending time with his children and grandchildren and touring the country with his motor home. He was member of the Lake Wales Lutheran Church and the Zion United Church of Christ in Dyer, IN.

Survivors include his wife of 49 years, Karen Elaine Bowyer of Lake Wales; daughters, Laura Lynn and husband, David, Jelle of North Freedom, WI and Janet Elaine and husband, Garry, Neitzel of Cedar Lake, IN; son, John Matthew and wife, Penny, Bowyer of Ivanhoe, MN; sister, Barbara Ann Brunner of Bloomington, IN; aunt, M. Ellenore Bowyer of Monroeville, IN; and three grandchildren, Travis, Tara and Lauren.

No local services are scheduled. Visitation will be held from 3:00 until 8:00 PM, Friday, April 11, 2008 at Burdan Funeral Home in Cedar Lake, IN. Funeral services will be held 11:00 AM, Saturday, April 12, 2008 at the Zion United Church of Christ in Dyer, IN with a viewing starting at 10:00 AM. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Heart Association or the American Diabetes Association.
