Frostproof Elementary

JoAnne Payne Carter Bailey of Frostproof passed away Sunday, January 4, 2009 at the Lake Wales Medical Center after a courageous fight with cancer.

She was born March 14, 1949 in Avon Park to the late Emory Crawford and Elma Elizabeth (Sangster) Payne; she was a lifelong resident of this area. She worked with many of the community children during her 36 years at Frostproof Elementary and retired in 2007. She was a charter member of the First Assembly of God Church in Frostproof, loved music, playing the piano and organ at church. She loved her grandchildren and was a friend to all.

JoAnne was preceded in death by her first husband, John P. Carter III. Survivors include her husband of 9 years, Maurice “Moe” Bailey; daughter, Michele Reynolds (Joey) of Frostproof; step-daughter, Samantha Bailey (Gary Liles) of Wauchula; sisters, Carolyn McElroy and Elizabeth McCrary both of Frostproof; a loving “Oma” to her grandchildren, Ian and Johna Reynolds; and numerous other step children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be held from 7:00 until 9:00 PM, Wednesday, January 7, 2009 at the Marion Nelson Funeral Home in Frostproof. Services will be held 11:00 AM, Thursday, January 8, 2009 at the Church of God in Frostproof.
