Jesse Cullen Simmons

Jesse Cullen Simmons of Lake Wales passed away Sunday, January 1, 2012 at the Winter Haven Hospital.

He was born September 19, 1936 in Enterprise, AL to the late Macon and Vinnie (Powell) Simmons; and has been a lifelong resident of this area. He was an iron worker in construction for 45 years, of the Baptist faith, and served in the U.S. Army.

Jesse was preceded in death by his son, Jesse Simmons, Jr. Survivors include his wife of 34 years, Phyllis Simmons; daughter, Myra; son, Phillip Simmons of Winter Haven; step-sons, Tony Retherford and Mike Retherford, both of Lake Wales; brothers, Jack Simmons of Bartow and James Simmons of California; three grandchildren, two step-grandchildren, and five step-great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held 11:00 AM Saturday, January 7, 2012 at the Marion Nelson Funeral Home in Lake Wales, with Rev. Garnett Pitts officiating. Visitation will be from 9:00-11:00 AM. Interment will follow at the Lake Wales Cemetery.
