Jerry Swenson Boyd

Jerry Swenson Boyd of Babson Park passed away Tuesday, February 15, 2011 at Brandywyne Health Care.

He was born December 18, 1933 in Swenson, TX to the late E.P. Swenson & Verna Mae (Love) Boyd. Mr. Boyd graduated from the University of Texas with a bachelor's degree. After graduating from the University of Texas, his first job was for Kraft Foods in Garland, TX and transferred to Lakeland from 1965 until 1970. In 1970 he went to work for Citrus World for 8 years, and then worked for many of the area citrus processors including Evan's Packing, Orange Co and USDA. He was a veteran of the Korean Conflict, serving in the U.S. Marines. He was a past president of Lake Wales Booster Club, a member of the Kiwanis Club and active in Lake Wales Little League. He enjoyed fishing and yard work. He was a wonderful, honest, caring man and was always ethical and fair. He loved his wife and family dearly.

Jerry was preceded in death by his parents, son, Jeffrey Scott Boyd and a brother, D. Scott Boyd. Survivors include his wife of 56 years, Sue Boyd; son, Rick Watson Boyd of Babson Park; daughter, Julie Denise Boyd Heath (Billy) of Babson Park; brother, Jamie C. Boyd of Las Cruses, NM; and three grandchildren, Summer Nicole Boyd, Willard G. "Trey" Heath III and Kristiana Boyd Heath.

A private family memorial service will be held at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to the Green Horizons Land Trust or the Lake Wales High School Academic Foundation.
