Jennie L. "Lou" Newell

Jennie L. "Lou" Newell of Lake Wales passed away Friday, June 1, 2012 at The Groves Center.

She was born October 3, 1930 in Edison, Georgia to the late Charles Oerthus & Mary Jencie (Pitts) Hartley; and she came here from Edison, GA over 60 years ago. She was a homemaker and was an active member of the First Baptist Church in Lake Wales, singing in the choir and was the long time secretary. She was also a bookkeeper at M&N Fruit Company, a former member of the Lake Wales Woman's Club and enjoyed gardening and cooking for her family.

Lou was preceded in death by her husband, Billie Newell in 2004. Survivors include her daughter, Shari Williams of Lake Wales; sons, Greg Newell (Teresa) of Hayesville, NC and Brett Newell of Lake Wales; sister, Doris Townsend of Ocala; brother, Ralph Hartley of Ontario, Canada; nine grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be held from 10:00 am until the funeral service at 11:00 am Monday, June 4, 2012 at the Marion Nelson Funeral Home in Lake Wales with Rev. Barry Hooten officiating. Interment will follow at the Lake Wales Cemetery.
