Jeanne G. Tooze, 90, of River Ranch, Florida (Helena, Montana) passed away Tuesday, March 10, 2015 at Life Care Center in Winter Haven.
She was born January 28, 1925 in Jamestown, New York to Paul and Cathryn (Eastman) Gallaher and has been a winter resident of the area for 20 years. Jeanne was an elementary school teacher and tutored disabled students. She was a deacon of the Wayside Presbyterian Church in Fairview, PA; a member of the Garden Club, Book Club and Bridge Club. A student of history, she loved literature, read widely, and enjoyed discussing ideas and current affairs with family and friends.
She was preceded in death by her daughter Sheryl Ann Riemsdijk Van Eldik, and two brothers, Lee Gallaher and Giles Gallagher.
Survivors include her husband Dr. Frank Tooze; daughter Rev. Dr. Cathryn Surgenor and husband Rev. Peter Surgenor of Holmes, NY, Kimberly Tooze of Littleton, CO; son, Dr. Steven Tooze and wife Suzanne of Dover, Delaware; grandchildren, Steven, Elizabeth, Sydney, Erin and Jennifer; and three great grandchildren, Sage, Owen and Charlotte Eva.
A celebration of Jeanne’s life will be held on Saturday, March 14th at 10:00a.m. in the River Ranch Chapel. A memorial gathering with the family will be held in the summer.
