Jeanne Tillman

September 14, 1924 — July 25, 2009

Jeanne Tillman aged 84 resident of Greenwood, SC passed away July 25, 2009 at Hospice Care of the Piedmont, SC.

She was born September 14, 1924 a daughter of the late James M. and Maude Johnson Tillman. She was the granddaughter of two of the founders of Lake Wales, Florida, G. V. Tillman and C.L. Johnson. She was a graduate of Lake Wales High School, received her B.A. degree from Florida College for Women and received her Master's Degree in Library Science from the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill. She was a former Law Librarian at Wake Forest University and the University of Virginia and head librarian at Webber International University in Babson Park, Florida. She was a member of the Phi Mu Sorority and a past member of the AAUW. She was a former member of the Lake Wales United Methodist Church and at the time of her death was a member of St. Mark United Methodist Church.

Survivors include one sister, Ola Belle Tillman of Greenwood, five nieces, Whitney Tillman Marcengill, and husband Jimmy of Greenwood, Catherine Tillman Bonnet, and her husband Ian of Atlanta, GA, Bettina Middleton, and her husband Chuck, Debbie Causey, and Pat Russell and her husband Bob all of Charleston. One nephew, Charles M. Tillman, Jr. of Tampa, FL. Nine great nieces, one great nephew, 6 great-great nieces, one great-great nephew and many cousins.

Memorial services will be Monday, at 11 a.m. at St. Mark United Methodist Church in Greenwood, SC with the Rev. Barrett Alewine officiating under the direction of Blyth Funeral Home, Greenwood, SC. A graveside service will be held 10:00 AM, Saturday, August 1, 2009 at Lake Wales Cemetery under the direction of Marion Nelson Funeral Home, Lake Wales, FL.

Memorials may be made to Florida United Methodist Children’s Home in Inverness, FL, or to Epworth Children’s Home, Columbia, SC.
