Jean Lynett Monestier Hess, 94, left her home on Thursday, June 10, 2021, to dance with the angels. Born on March 8, 1927 in Santa Rosa, CA, she attended Roosevelt High School in Fresno, CA. She met and married the love of her life, Air Force Pilot Raymond Hess, Jr, who died on March 10, 1991. Three wonderful and spunky children came of this marriage: Darrell Hess (Brenda), Peggy McRae Hallett, and Carrie Jordan Cherry (Tim); seven grandchildren: Jonathan McRae, Scott McRae, Michael Hess, Casey Jordan, Sandra Hess, Eric Jordan, and April McRae Farner; ten great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; and one loving ex-daughter-in-law Jackie Hess. She is also predeceased by her two dear sisters: Margaret Kickasola and Doreen Bodine.
In addition to loving to dance and travel, Jean was a homemaker and member of Easter Star, American Legion, and South Lake Wales Church of God. She has been lovingly described by family as Mean Jean; dancing, camping granny; funny; tiny; stubborn; tough; globetrotter; wearer of pink lipstick; lover of wine; timeless; southpaw; faithful; prayer warrior; disciplined; always loving; witty; brave; strong; colorful and vivacious. (You get extra credit if you can figure out which family members said which things.)
We will celebrate her always. But, you may join us for a special celebration on Friday June 25, 2021 at 2:00pm at South Lake Wales Church of God.
In lieu of flowers, she requested contributions be made to Lake Wales Care Center, 140 E Park Avenue, Lake Wales, FL 33853, 863.676.6678 or South Lake Wales Church of God, 210 Presidents Drive, Lake Wales, FL 33859, 863.638.1019.
