James William Wheeler, born on December 22, 1932, in Ashburn, Georgia, passed away peacefully at his residence on April 12, 2026. He lived a long and full life, marked by his independent spirit and a deep dedication to his work and family.
James spent his career as an agriculture worker for Ben Hill Griffin. His strong work ethic and commitment were evident to all who knew him. Outside of work, James enjoyed many hobbies that brought him joy. He loved to fish and found pleasure in eating, especially at Frostbite. He was also a fan of wrestling and western films. Known for keeping everyone in line, he had a lively passion for racing, which added excitement to his days. He was a man of independence and strength, qualities that served him well throughout his life.
James is survived by his loving children: Glenda Gail Stinson and her companion Robert Ledford of Bartow; Dorothy Reed and her husband Bobby of Frostproof; Beverly Gandy and her husband Daniel of Babson Park; James E. Wheeler of Frostproof; and daughter-in-law, Naomi Wheeler of Avon Park. He was also the proud grandfather of 21 grandchildren and great-grandfather to 17 great-grandchildren, who will all carry forward his legacy.
He was predeceased by his beloved wife Brenda Louise Wheeler, his parents George and Ethel Wheeler, his sons Paul E. Wheeler and Kenneth W. Wheeler, and his sister Gladys L. Calhoon.
A graveside service will be held on Friday, April 24, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. at Silver Hill Cemetery.. Condolences can be sent to the family at www.marionnelsonfuneralhome.com.
