James R. Thornton formerly of Frostproof passed away Saturday, March 16, 2013 at the Florida Hospital in Sebring.
He was born June 18, 1928 in Frostproof to the late Elliot & Alma Thornton; he grew up in Frostproof, graduated from Frostproof Senior High in 1946 and was a member of the Corinth Primitive Baptist Church. He entered the military and moved to Fort Pierce following his military discharge in the late 1950’s. He was a former member and past commander of the American Legion in Fort Pierce. He was an avid Miami Dolphins and Florida Gators fan and enjoyed crossword puzzles.
James was preceded in death by his wife, Jeanelle Thornton in 2001. Survivors include his son, Stephen Bustin (Cynthia) of Fort Pierce; sister, Jesse Respress of Frostproof; brothers, Ernest Thornton, Vernon Thornton and Ellis Thornton all of Homerville, GA; five grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be held from 2:00 until the funeral service at 3:00 pm Tuesday, March 19, 2013 at the Corinth Primitive Baptist Church in Bereah with burial to follow.
