LAKE WALES -- Mr. James Russell Smith of Lake Wales died of cancer Monday (Oct. 31, 2005) at home. He was 58.

Born in Denver on Aug. 14, 1947, he came to Lake Wales from Orlando in 1986. He was a poet, artist and former educator, having taught at Vanguard School. He held 17 one-man artist shows in galleries throughout the United States and England, and recently had some of his poetry accepted for publication by Harding House Publications. He was active with WHYSA.

Mr. Smith is survived by his wife, Joyce Smith; mother, Peggy D. Smith, Palo Alto, Calif.; sister, Rhonwen Smith, Palo Alto.

Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Saturday at Marion Nelson Funeral Home of Lake Wales.
