James B. "Jimmy" Scarborough

October 3, 1943 — September 7, 2010

James B. "Jimmy" Scarborough of Frostproof passed away Tuesday, September 7, 2010 at the Winter Haven Hospital.

He was born October 3, 1943 in Frostproof to the late Zed C. and Rua Mae Scarborough; he was a lifelong resident of Frostproof. He was the owner/operator of the Badcock Furniture Store in Frostproof for 48 years and a member of the First Baptist Church in Frostproof. He was a former longtime fire chief at Frostproof Fire Department, a past member of the Rotary Club and a member of the Frostproof Chamber of Commerce, the Bulldog Booster Club and FFA Alumni Association. He was also a Diamond Life member of the National Wild Turkey Federation; he coached and sponsored several Little League teams and was inducted into the Frostproof Sports Hall of Fame. He was a supporter of the Polk County Youth Fair and was an avid hunter and fisherman. He was a proud husband, father and grandfather "Pa".

Jimmy was preceded in death by his sister, Joan Adams. Survivors include his wife of 48 years, Beverly Lamons Scarborough; sons, James B. "Ben" & Tina Scarborough II of Frostproof and J. Barry & Sherri Scarborough of Winter Haven; brother, Jerry Scarborough of Green Mountain, NC; and five grandchildren, Ryan, Kirsten, Cade, Savana and Tanner.

Visitation will be held from 6:00 until 8:00 PM, Thursday, September 9, 2010 and the funeral service will be held 11:00 AM, Friday, September 10, 2010 at the First Baptist Church in Frostproof with Rev. Darrol Hood officiating. Interment will follow at the Silver Hill Cemetery.
