James Donald Boyd

James D. “Jim” Boyd, 85, of Frostproof, Florida passed away Saturday, July 2, 2016 at The Bay Front Medical Center in St. Petersburg under the care of Suncoast Hospice.

He was born on March 17, 1931 in Madison County, Alabama to the late Elbert R. and Pauline Miller Boyd. Following high school, he served in the US Army during the Korean Conflict and married Elizabeth Campbell in 1955. Upon receiving his bachelor’s degree in education he began his teaching and coaching career at the Hazel Green High School in 1957. Coach Boyd retired from the Frostproof Senior High School in 1994 after a 34-year career. Coach Boyd served and mentored 3 generations of students at the Frostproof High School. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Frostproof and spent his time with family and activities centered around the school.

He was preceded in death by his grandson, Tyler P. Boyd
Survivors include his wife, Elizabeth Boyd; sons, Jeff Boyd and wife Kim of Frostproof, Greg Boyd and wife Robin of Mary Ester, Florida, Tim Boyd and wife Kathy of Saint Cloud, MN; 6 grandchildren, Max, Jessica, Justin, David “Molly”, Alexis and Chasee, 2 great grandchildren, Sophey and Kai.

Funeral services will be held 10:00 AM Wednesday July, 6, 2016 at the First Baptist Church of Frostproof with Rev. Darrol Hood officiating. Interment will be held at the Silver Hill Cemetery. Family will receive friends on Tuesday, July 5, 2016 from 6:00 until 8:00 PM at the Frist Baptist Church of Frostproof.
