Irene Pinkston Simmons of Lake Wales passed away Thursday, March 30, 2017.
She was born September 23, 1919 in Ludowici, GA to the late James Marlowe and Martha Elizabeth “Pattie” Baggs Pinkston; and was a sibling of one brother, Bertrand R. Pinkston and one sister, Vivian Pinkston Bass. She has been a Florida resident since 1921 and graduated from the Lake Wales High School in 1938. She and her husband, W.J. Simmons, were married and moved to Miami in 1938, where they owned and operated several businesses in the automotive and aeronautical industry. In 1978 they retired and returned to Lake Wales.
Irene was preceded in death by her husband, parents, brother and sister. Survivors include her daughters, June Bond (Roy) of Orlando, Marsha Cassady of Clyde, NC and Patti Moore (Roger) of Lake Wales; five grandchildren, Donna Bond, Karen Holland, Rick (Kristen) Cassady and Justin Moore; and four great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be held from 10:30 a.m. until the funeral service at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, April 4, 2017 at Marion Nelson Funeral Home in Lake Wales with Rev. Bill Anderson officiating. Interment will follow at Lake Wales Cemetery.Marion Nelson Funeral Home Inc.
