Howard D. Towns, Jr.

Howard D. Towns, Jr. of Lake Wales passed away Sunday, March 13, 2016 at his residence. He was born January 29, 1926 in Bienville Parrish, LA to the late Howard D. & Zelma Towns; he came here from Sebring in 1951. He was the owner/operator of Towns Oil Co., a member of First Baptist Church of Lake Wales and a veteran of World War II, serving in the U.S. Army. He was a former P.O.W. and received a Purple Heart for his service. He was also a member of the Lake Wales Masonic Lodge, Lambda Chi Alpha, American Ex P.O.W.’s, Lions International and Gideon’s International. Mr. Towns was preceded in death by his son, Howard D. “Don” Towns. Survivors include his wife, Marian Towns; daughter, Virginia Anne Towns Schreier of Winter Haven; and six grandchildren. Visitation will be held from 9:00 a.m. until the funeral service at 9:30 a.m. Friday, March 18, 2016 at the First Baptist Church in Lake Wales. Burial with military honors will be held 1:30 p.m. Friday, March 18, 2016 at the Florida National Cemetery in Bushnell.
