Hilda A. Werner, 74

Hilda A. Werner of Lake Wales passed away Saturday, July 2, 2022 at Family Extended Care of Winter Haven.

She was born February 2, 1948 in Winter Haven to the late Samuel and Sadie Dowdy; she has been a lifelong resident of the area. Hilda retired from Cargill Citrus and was a member of Golfview Baptist Church. In 1986, she married Barry Werner and they started their lives together in Frostproof. Early in their marriage, Hilda and Barry enjoyed going on cruises. Hilda spent her free time going to yard sales and shopping at the Catholic Church Thrift Store.

Hilda was preceded in death by her son, David Stinson; sister, O’Dell; and brothers, Doug, Barney, Wayne, and Thomas. She is survived by her husband of 36 years, Barry Werner; daughter, Shelia Billingham and husband Scott of Gulf Breeze; stepdaughter, Kimberly Rae Gillard and husband Jim of Tallahassee; brothers, Pete Dowdy of Plant City, and Mike Dowdy of Wetumpka, Alabama; four grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

A visitation will be held from 1:30 p.m. until the funeral service at 2:30 p.m., Friday, July 8, 2022 at Marion Nelson Funeral Home in Lake Wales with Rev. David Koon officiating. Interment will follow at Silver Hill Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in her honor can be made to the Shriners Children’s Hospital in Tampa ( www.shrinerschildrens.org/en/locations/florida ) or Saint Jude’s Children’s Hospital ( www.stjude.org ).
