Herbert Arthur Ingley, Iii

Dr. "Skip" Ingley, Ph.D., beloved husband, father, grandfather, professor, and mechanical engineer, died October 8th from a heart attack in his Gainesville, FL home. Born in Washington, D.C. and raised in Lake Wales, FL, Skip was the son of H.A. Ingley Jr. and Betty A. Ingley Story. He is survived by his brother Roger A. Ingley of Lake Wales; his loving wife of 14 years, Jennifer; his six adoring children: Bert, David, Sarah, Owen, Spencer, and Carson; and by 24 grandchildren, of whom Skip was extremely proud. Professor Emeritus of University of Florida Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering, Skip enthusiastically taught from 1973-2015. He served on department committees right up until his passing. He went above and beyond for his graduate students, from hosting them in his home during holidays, to helping them secure jobs worldwide. His passion for service to young people and his gift for mentorship extended into decades of volunteerism for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, primarily its youth groups and Boy Scouts of America troops. He served on the local Bishopric and as Young Men's President. He was a partner in Ingley, Campbell, Moses & Associates, Inc, his highly respected consulting engineering firm, vital to many state commercial and government projects from 1980 to the late 1990's. He holds several patents. He regularly presented for national industry organizations; he presented for NASA. He held many professional memberships. He was an extremely skilled woodworker. Across his 78 years, Skip also loved sailing, home improvement, drumming, juggling, tennis, chemistry, antique collecting, U.S. history, and Gator football. He enjoyed his last day of this life alongside family in town for the Homecoming game. Lifelong, he welcomed every day with tremendous positivity, practicality, humor, intellectual curiosity, warmth to others, and integrity in aligning his actions with his principles.
