Helen Dawson went to be with Jesus Wednesday, January 3, 2024, in Frostproof, Florida. She was born on July 20, 1925, in Worth Township to the late Wilbur and Blanche (Odlum) Utley, with younger siblings Kurt, Audrey, Hubert and Jo. She married Clayton Dawson on February 14,1942 and raised six children: Sharron, Valerie, Reva, Dennis, Amy, Chris. She has many loving grandchildren, great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren. She and Clayton spent their whole lives in the Lexington, Michigan area, spending winters of their retirement years in Frostproof, FL
Helen graduated from Croswell High School; later earned a bachelor’s and then master’s degree. She began teaching at a one room country school in 1958, transferred to Meyer Elementary in Lexington, then onto Croswell Middle School where she became a school counselor and served for many years before retiring in 1984.
Throughout her life she has been very involved with local churches: Valiant Ministries Church in Croswell, Michigan and Family Life Church in Frostproof, Florida. Helen has always had a strong faith, interest in people and what is happening in the world. She was always learning and quickly used her tablet to glean new information and communicate with her family and friends. She had a strong desire to serve and honor God and to share her faith with others. She has been a wonderful mentor and encouragement to others. She is celebrated and loved by many.
A memorial service will be held in Lexington later this year.
