H.E. "Gene" Atkinson

H.E. "Gene" Atkinson of Winter Haven passed away on Saturday, August 01, 2009 at the Winter Haven Hospital.

He was born August 18, 1915 in Wadesboro, North Carolina to the late, Henry A. & Lottie Bell Atkinson; he came here 76 years ago from North Carolina. He was a mortgage broker and a member of the Faith Baptist Church of Winter Haven.

Gene was preceded in death by his wife of 58 years, Evelyn Atkinson and a son, Richard Eugene Atkinson. Survivors include his daughters, Dolores A. Smith (Leroy) of Lake Wales and Patricia Gilpin (Ed) of Mission, TX; sons, Wayne Atkinson of Winter Haven and John Atkinson of Lake Wales; 10 grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held 10:00 AM Tuesday, August 04, 2009 at the Marion Nelson Funeral Home in Lake Wales with Rev. Ed Gilpin officiating with the visitation starting at 9:00 AM. Interment will follow at the Rolling Hills Cemetery in Winter Haven.
