Harold C. Van Ostrand of Frostproof passed away Sunday, November 23, 2008 at The Oaks of Avon.

He was born June 13, 1923 in Miami, FL and was the son of the late Harold Van Ostrand and Harriet Clifford Van Ostrand. Harold moved from Miami, FL to Spruce Pine, NC in 1981. He retired from Amerigas, where he was manager, in 1999. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Frostproof, FL. He was a former member and deacon of First Baptist Church of Spruce Pine, NC. He volunteered with ‘Meals on Wheels’ and was a mason of the Vesper Lodge, and a member of the Oasis Shrine Temple and Easter Star. He moved to Frostproof, FL in 2007. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather and friend to many.

He is survived by his wife, Nancy Van Ostrand of Frostproof, FL; sister, Ruth Gazur of Lexington, KY; three sons, Duane Van Ostrand (wife, Denise) of Huntington Beach, CA, Jeff Hill (wife, Debbie) of Pembroke Pines, FL, and Rev. Joe Hill (wife, Pam) of Miramar, FL; three daughters, Linda Lee Upchurch (husband, John) of The Colony, TX, Linda Clark (husband, Charles) of Frostproof, FL and Carol McGinnis (husband, Bob) of Great Falls, VA; thirteen grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren and a host of neighbors, friends and family.

Memorial services will be held 4:00 PM Tuesday, December 30, 2008 at the First Baptist Church of Frostproof. Memorial donations may be made to Alzheimers.org or Gideon Bibles International.
