H. P. Brooker

H.P. Brooker, beloved husband, father and grandfather, of Lake Wales passed away Friday, November 27, 2009 at the Lake Wales Medical Center.

He was born March 19, 1924 in Jupiter, FL to the late Henry Brooker & Dosia Whidden; he attended Avon Park High School and came here from Avon Park in 1949. He founded the first septic service in Polk County, Brooker Septic Service Inc. in 1956, which his family continues to operate. He also retired from Polk County Board of County Commissioners after 16 years; was a member of the Lake Buffum Baptist Church and a veteran of World War II, serving in the U.S. Army. He was a member of the Winter Haven Moose Lodge since 1982 and enjoyed hunting and fishing.

H. P. was preceded in death by his brother, Frank Brooker. Survivors include his wife of 34 years, Paige Powell Brooker; four daughters, Debbie McQuaig (Wayne) of Fort Meade, Jeaneen Goff (Murray) of Winter Haven, Beverly Lackey of Haines City and Cindy Mora (Jose) of Lake Wales; one sister, Josephine Bost of Winter Haven; ten grandchildren and fourteen great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be held from 6:00 until 8:00 PM, Monday, November 30, 2009 at the Marion Nelson Funeral Home in Lake Wales. Funeral service will be held 11:00 AM, Tuesday, December 01, 2009 at the Marion Nelson Funeral Home in Lake Wales with Rev. Derrick Hinsley officiating. Interment will follow at the Lake Buffum Baptist Church Cemetery.
