Lake Wales, Florida

Gwendolyn Beaufort Harrell, lovingly known as Gwen, passed away on October 14, 2026, at her home in Lake Wales, Florida. She was born on May 26, 1933, in Pooler, Georgia, to Benjamin Beaufort and Evangeline Morgan Beaufort.

Gwen built a life marked by dedication, warmth, and deep affection for the people and pastimes she cherished most. She earned an associate degree and went on to serve in civil service administration at Fort Stuart US Army Hospital. Her work reflected a steady commitment to service, a quality that also showed in her volunteer time at Bok Tower.

She found joy in simple and meaningful pleasures. She loved being on the lake with her husband, Walter Harrell, and treasured every opportunity to spend time with her family, especially when she was able to visit them. She was also known for the happiness she found in crocheting, sewing, and thrift shopping, interests that brought both creativity and enjoyment into her daily life. Gwen was a member of the First Baptist Church Happy Hearts in Richmond Hill, Georgia, as well as an Officer of ALA Oriental Band Auxiliary at the Alee Shrive Temple. She served her local community as a Volunteer at the Historic Bok Tower Gardens. Along with these, she is a retired Treasurer for Winn Army Community Hospital in Ft. Stewart Georgia where she went on to receive a medal for meritorious service firing Desert Storm.

Above all, Gwen’s family was at the center of her heart. She is survived by her daughters, Molly Harrell of Lake Wales, Florida; Lisa Harrell of Richmond Hill, Georgia; and Jan Walker and husband Richard of Savannah, Georgia. The love she shared with her family was enduring, and the memories they hold of her will remain a lasting comfort.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Walter Harrell, as well as by her father, Benjamin Beaufort, and her mother, Evangeline Morgan Beaufort.

Gwen will be remembered with love for her generous spirit, her devotion to family, and the quiet joys that shaped her life so beautifully. Her memory will remain a blessing to all who knew her.

Services will be held on Monday, October 19, 2026, at Marion Nelson Funeral Home in Lake Wales, Florida, with Pastor Scott Markley officiating. The family will welcome guests from 1:00 PM until the service begins at 2:00 PM. A graveside service will be held at Bonaventure Cemetery in Savannah, Georgia at a later date.
