Gwendolyn H. Burr

Gwendolyn H. Burr formerly of Lake Wales passed away Monday, May 14, 2012 in Hendersonville, NC.

She was born September 28, 1914 in Henry County, AL to the late Arthur C. & Tommie (Sessons) Herndon; in 1925 she came to Lake Wales where she grew up and later graduated from Florida State University. She was a teacher for 30 years in the Polk County School System and was a member of the American Association of University Women, Inner Wheel and the Retired Teacher's Association. She was also active in the First United Methodist Church in Lake Wales until she moved to be her with her daughter in Hendersonville, NC.

Survivors include her daughter, Susan Burr Harris (A.D.) of Hendersonville, NC; son, R. Hudson Burr III (Mandy Welch) of Livingston, TX; brothers, Horrace F. Herndon of Lake Wales and Sherrod L. Herndon of Green Valley, AZ; and four grandchildren.

Graveside service will be held 10:00 am Saturday, May 19, 2012 at the Lake Wales Cemetery.
