Mr. Godfrey Weir Alexander passed away peacefully on May 8, 2025, in Lake Wales, Florida, at the age of 85. Born on October 23, 1939, in Jackson Heights, New York, Weir lived a long and vibrant life marked by devotion to family, community service, and a joyful spirit that left a lasting impression on all who knew him.
Weir attended St Bernard Academy in Cullman, Alabama, where he developed great friends and many stories. He was deeply committed to his faith and served for many years as an usher at St. James Catholic Church in Orlando. His dedication to the church reflected his broader commitment to community and service—a value he carried throughout his life.
Known affectionately as "Big Weir" or "Uncle Brother” to his nieces and nephews, Weir was a beloved presence in every room he entered. His quiet warmth and witty humor was matched only by his impeccable sense of style. Whether enjoying a glass of red wine or George Dickel, Weir appreciated the finer things in life with grace and gratitude.
Family was at the heart of everything Weir did. He is lovingly remembered by his wife of 49 years, Emily Pitts Alexander; son Godfrey Weir Alexander, IV and wife Sharla of Gainesville; daughters Elizabeth Lepic and husband Rich of Darien, Illinois, Mary Susan Casselberry and husband Scott of Naples, Julia Whidden and husband Bill of Lake Wales, Michelle Harris and husband Arell of Naples, Sarah Alexander of Jupiter, Marianne Bishop and husband Bill of Lakeway, Texas; as well as his 15 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren. A lifelong lover of borzois, Weir raised many of the elegant dogs throughout his adulthood, finding joy and companionship in their quiet grace. Though preceded in death by his son Marshall Alexander and sister Perilla Wilson, Weir’s legacy continues through the lives of those he held dear.
A fantastic father and cherished figure in the lives of many, Weir brought joy and laughter to countless family gatherings. His spirit shone brightest during the holidays, when he took on the role of Santa’s elf at every Christmas party, lighting up the room for children and adults alike. Whether cheering on Alabama football–Roll Tide–or a day of hunting, Weir infused every moment with warmth, humor, and an infectious smile that made memories last a lifetime.
May the memory of Mr. Godfrey Weir Alexander bring comfort to all who knew him and serve as a reminder of a life lived with love, laughter, and unwavering devotion. A Funeral Mass will be held at 2:00 pm on May 21,2025 at Saint James Catholic Cathedral in Orlando. Interment will follow at Woodlawn Memorial Park in Gotha.
