Gloria Maria Lopez

Gloria Maria Lopez, a dedicated teacher and cherished community volunteer, passed away peacefully on June 1, 2026, at AdventHealth Lake Wales in Florida. Born on October 5, 1922, in Salinas, Puerto Rico, Gloria led a life marked by service, dedication, and commitment to both her family and her community.

Gloria’s career spanned many years in education, where she enriched the lives of countless students with her passion and knowledge. She held a bachelor's degree, earned after 16 years of dedicated study and professional growth. Her love for teaching extended beyond the classroom as she generously volunteered at the Lake Wales Arts Center and Polk County Schools, nurturing the arts and education within her community.

Beyond her contributions as an educator, Gloria served honorably in the United States Army during the Korean War, demonstrating a deep sense of patriotism and courage. Her military service is a testament to her strong character and unwavering commitment to her nation.

Gloria is survived by her loving family: her daughter, Gilda Ceballos of Lake Wales; her siblings Carmen D. Lopez of Bayamón, Puerto Rico, Petra Lopez Rosado of Guaynabo, Puerto Rico, and Jose R. Lopez of Jamestown, North Carolina; as well as her niece Vanessa Avarado of Puerto Rico. In addition, she leaves behind dear friend Frank Arroyo of Kissimmee, Florida, who will remember her fondly. Gloria was preceded in death by her parents, Rafael Lopez and Modesta Santigo.

Her visitation will be held on June 3, 2026, from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at the Marion Nelson Funeral Home in Lake Wales. The funeral service will be held on Thursday, June 4, 2026 at 9:00 a.m. at Marion Nelson Funeral Home in Lake Wales with Chaplain Michael Plog officiating. Interment will follow at 1:30 PM at Florida National Cemetery in Bushnell. 

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in her honor can be sent to Vitas Hospice - Lake Wales Unit.

Gloria Maria Lopez lived a life full of dedication—to her students, her family, her country, and her community. Her legacy of service and kindness will continue to inspire all who had the privilege to know her. She will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered.
